Accommodative intraocular lenses for age-related cataracts.
نویسنده
چکیده
The standard intraocular lens (IOL) that is used to replace a cataractous lens cannot change focus from distant to near objects, so most patients need glasses for near vision after cataract surgery. Limited evidence suggests that accommodative IOLs provide better near vision than monofocal IOLs, but not better than multifocal IOLs. Long-term follow-up is needed to confirm patient outcomes, and determine whether the benefits justify the additional cost.

متن کاملReal and Pseudoaccommodation in Accommodative Lenses
In the attempt to manage presbyopia, different intraocular lens designs have been proposed such as monofocal IOLs with monovision or multifocal IOLs. Even though the lenses mentioned offer satisfactory visual results, contemporary ophthalmology has not completely answered the presbyopic dilemma by simulating the accommodative properties of the crystalline lens itself. Accommodative IOLs were de...

Pediatric cataracts are responsible for more than 1 million childhood blindness in Asia. In developing countries like India, 7.4%–15.3% of childhood blindness is due to cataract.[1] The socioeconomic status of a large proportion of children with cataracts in India precludes reliable rehabilitation with contact lenses for aphakia. It is noteworthy that the Infant Aphakia Treatment Study (IATS)[2...

T he eye’s ability to accommodate is progressively lost with age, which is why this phenomenon is called presbyopia (from the Greek words présbys, meaning old, and ōps, meaning eyes). The condition can be treated with corrective lenses, a method that has been widely used for a long time; however, this approach may not be the most comfortable treatment option for the patient. Today, patients hav...
